Coach Jim Tressel

Just a caricature of Ohio State's head football coach Jim Tressel. The Bucks have a big game this weekend against Iowa for the Big Ten title. I will be there in the stands with my peanut M&M's. Every game I go to I have to have Peanut M&M's in the third quarter. It's not a good luck thing, I just like peanut M&M's.

Go Bucks!

Final Doggie art

Here's the finished piece for the Doggie illustration for my portfolio. I'm pretty happy with it. I really like the dogs expression.

Art Tip Tuesday

So when I work in Photoshop this is how I like to set up my screen. I have several windows open of the same image but at different zooms. What ever I do in one window will appear in all the other windows. Instead of zooming in and out all of the time. It's also important to work over the entire picture and not in just one little area. Keep moving around the image working over the entire piece. Always remember work general to specific.

Teaser

Not going to have anything to post this week. So here is a teaser for a piece that I am working on right now. As I mentioned in my Tuesday art tips I like to work on a couple of pieces at a time. Hope to have some new stuff next week.

Art Tip Tuesday

Have you been working on an illustration that just isn't looking right? The best thing you can do to instantly see the problem is hold your drawing up to a mirror. If you are working on the computer just flip it in Photoshop. We tend to draw things more slanted than we mean to and often have more weight on one side of our drawing than the other.

Still not happy with your illustration? Take a break from it. Work on another drawing or take a walk. When you com back to that troubling illustration with fresh eyes you'll see your errors in a whole new light. I often work on three illustration at a time. If I get too involved in one illustration or start to fear making too many big changes I'll force myself to switch to another illustration.

Dad's in Charge

This one took a while to finish. Thanks to all that helped critique this piece on the Illustration board. Their suggestions really made this a winner.

Art Tip Tuesday

My art tip this week is to create a sketchbook with other artists work. That's right, take the work of artists you admire and images that you love and tape them into a sketchbook so you can easily reference it later on. I also save images from the internet that I love in a special folder. When I have a bunch of them I print them off on a full sheet of sticker paper. Cut them out and stick them in your sketchbook. Refer to your book from time to time to study techniques used and a great way to get inspiration.
