How I decided what to self publish.

The book that I am self publishing is a real labor of love, but not the book I saw myself publishing. I wanted my first self published book to be a dark graphic novel or a book of all my monsters. So, why a how to draw book? Well, it's very general and crosses many age groups and sexes. If I printed a graphic novel it has a much more narrow market. It might be great book, but it will have a narrow readership. There's nothing wrong with that. Actually, those are the kinds of books I like. But I have to sell this myself with extremely limited resources so a general audience is something that will benefit me.

I created this book while doing school visits all over the mid-west and I needed an easy way to show kids how to draw. I remember as a kid someone showed me how to turn the number five into a lion and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. One of my early school presentations I showed the kids how to draw that lion and kids loved it. They started shouting out other numbers they wanted me to turn into animals. So quickly thinking I turned the five into a dog and a groundhog. Luckily I was saved by the bell and didn't have to think of other animals or numbers.

I wanted my first self publishing experience to be a good one and by good I mean profitable. It is my hope this endeavor will finance more books I create so hopefully one day I can print the book of my dreams.
