Dragon Lance

So there is no rhyme or reason to this illustration. I just started scribbling and this is what I came up with. I don't know why the dragon is scared, or why the kid with the lance looks so goofy.

Then I left my sketchbook on the floor and my dog started sniffing the page and his nose smeared the ink...So I found out I had been working in non waterproof ink. So I took a sponge and a blender marker and started blending the brown ink a little more.

This is wonderful piece. I love it. It has a whimsical feel to it. I love the idea that the dragon is scared. It just goes to show you that the most interesting ideas can start off with a random sketch.

Thanks Ashley,
And you're exactly right. A sketch for fun really can go in any direction, unlike my client work that has a specific direction it must go. That's why it's so important to sketch as much as you can.
